Every October, all Seniors and their parents will meet with the counselor for an Education and Career Conference. During these conferences we will discuss the topics below, along with any other concerns or questions.

ACT Information
If you are not happy with your ACT score from last year, you should plan to take the ACT again this year, as early as possible. Aim for the October test date. See your counselor for registration information.

Tips for Taking the ACT
College Application Tips

College & Scholarship Application Form Whenever you need a document (listed below) sent to a college or scholarship organization, you must complete one of these forms and submit it to your counselor with your college/scholarship paperwork. -Need Transcript Sent -Need Application or Fee Sent -Need Counselor Recommendation Form Sent -Need ACT Scores Sent... Applications Form Application Essays This document includes hints for writing your essays and sample essay questions. Recommendation Letters If you need a recommendation letter for a college or scholarship application, you must ask the teacher at least 2 weeks before the application deadline--out of respect for your teacher/counselor's time. It is also helpful to give that person a list of the activities & community service you have done in high school, as well as the honors/awards you have received. If you want to attend MATC, you will need to take their Accuplacer test (unless your ACT score is high enough). The test includes English and Math skills assessment. Veiw the link below for practice questions and work with your teachers to prepare for this test! Accuplacer Practice Tests Work Release/ Work Experience You are only eligible for this program if you are a student in good standing. If you fail too many classes or your school attendance becomes a problem, you will not be allowed to leave school early for work release. In order to earn a passing grade in this program, you must submit an evaluation from your employer and show proof of your work hours at midterm and at the end of the term. Need a Work Permit?

After January 1st, Seniors who want financial aid for college should file their FAFSA. Your counselor will help you start this process during the school day. After beginning, make sure you work with your parent(s) to complete the application. Juniors and Seniors who meet certain requirements can apply to take a college class while still in high school through the Youth Options Program. Senior Planning Checklist
ð Strengthen academic and personal skills.
ð Continue activities, volunteer, work experiences.
ð Request recommendation letters from teachers, advisors, and employers. Give them at least two weeks before the deadline to complete the letter.
ð Notify school counselor of all awards, scholarships, and college acceptance you receive!
ð Review your transcript/ meet with counselor to make sure you are on track to graduate.
ð Update your resume.

ð Visit with college representatives.
ð Tour colleges of interest/ Attend college fairs.
ð Work on college application essays.
ð Begin submitting college applications in Fall and finish by December 1st.
ð Take the ACT/SAT if you have not already. Re-test if necessary.
ð Continue to apply for scholarships.
ð Attend a financial aid workshop.
ð Determine if you qualify for scholarships/grants at the schools you have chosen.
ð Apply for financial aid. Submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1. Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
