Youth Options Program
Juniors and Seniors who meet certain requirements can apply to take a college class while still in high school through the Youth Options Program. Veiw the link below for more information, and see your counselor if you want to apply. http://dpi.wi.gov/youthoptions/ Pre-College Programs http://uwhelp.wisconsin.edu/precollege There are a wide variety of pre-college programs in the state of Wisconsin that allow high school students to prepare for college in different ways. The link above has a directory of all UW precollege programs. Private colleges in Wisconsin also offer these programs. Many of them are free if you are eligible for free or reduced lunch. ð Continue activities, volunteer, and work experiences.
ð Focus on matching interests/abilities and career goals to appropriate postsecondary choice.
ð Establish a tentative career goal/ Make a decision on postsecondary plans. (College, Military, Work)
ð Identify admission requirements and deadlines for colleges of interest.
ð Register for and take the ACT and/or SAT. See your counselor about a fee waiver.
ð Identify people to write recommendations for you.
ð Research prospective colleges.
ð Visit with college representatives.
ð Tour campuses: sit in on classes, meet with admissions counselor, ask questions.
ð Begin scholarship search.
ð Discuss financial options with family/parents.
ð Begin organizing a calendar with scholarship, college admissions, and financial aid deadlines.
ð Prepare your resume.
ð Continue to save money for college.
